Alan “Gumby” Marques is the head instructor and founder of Heroes Martial Arts and a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Ralph Gracie. Gumby is also co-founder of OntheMat/OTM has has trained and traveled the world since 1996 training, learning, teaching and spreading the word of Jiu Jitsu.



Bobby Vasquez is the first student to begin his tutelage and earn all of his rankings including Black Belt in 2016 with Gumby. Bobby is proudly a San Jose native and credits Jiu Jitsu with changing his life, and he happily shares his knowledge and love of the art.



Nick “Eastside” Borbon began his training at Heroes Martial Arts when it first opened up and has since become the youngest and the fastest to achieve the rank of black belt in 2017.



Konstantin Skachkov has trained with Gumby since the days at Ralph Gracie’s Mountain View Academy and was formally awarded his black belt in 2015. A native of Russia, Konstantin is actually responsible for opening one of the first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies in that country, a school which has gone on to produce champions on the European circuit.



Marcelino “Migs” Miguel earned his black belt under Gumby in 2015. Migs began his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu career under Garth Taylor and Paul Schriener and for a time acted as an instructor at Cung Le’s gym.



Shozo Fukuda is the Judo and Fitness Instructor at Heroes Martial Arts. A decorated Judo competitor and former coach at San Jose State, Shozo, also holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Gumby.



Trevor Ireland is the Youth Instructor at Heroes Martial Arts and received his Black Belt in Brazilian Jitsu under Gumby in 2017. Trevor is known for his innovative and creative version of Jiu Jitsu and is an accomplished musician as well.
