Gumby Executive Class Announcement

Downtown San Jose | Weekdays, 6:30 AM

Heroes Martial Arts is proud to introduce the Executive Class, an early-morning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program designed specifically for dedicated professionals who take their training seriously—both on and off the mat.

Held Monday through Friday at 6:30 AM at Heroes Martial Arts in Downtown San Jose, this class is led by Gumby, founder of Heroes Martial Arts and a 5th Degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt with nearly 30 years of active mat experience.

This is not simply an early class. It is a focused, intentional training environment built for long-term growth, consistency, and excellence.

A Teaching Philosophy Built on Experience and Evolution

Gumby’s teaching approach blends decades of experience with the latest instructional methods and training trends. His core belief is simple but demanding:

Progress in Jiu Jitsu comes from the combination of technical mastery, intelligent game planning, and strengthening both mind and body.

Each week follows a structured lesson plan designed to build skills systematically, reinforce concepts, and help students develop a game that works under pressure—on the mat and in life.

Designed for Professionals Who Commit

The Executive Class is built for people who:

  • Have demanding careers and family responsibilities
  • View Jiu Jitsu as a central pillar of their life, not a casual hobby
  • Recognize the benefits Jiu Jitsu brings beyond physical fitness—clarity, discipline, resilience, and confidence

While the environment is supportive and tight-knit, this is not a social club. The expectation is that participants are committed to real progress, consistent attendance, and continuous improvement.

A key long-term objective of the class is to prepare those interested to compete at the Masters Worlds Championship around Labor Day Weekend.

Community, Accountability, and Lifelong Bonds

Jiu Jitsu is known for creating lifelong connections—but there is something uniquely powerful about training together before the day begins. Early-morning students often form especially strong friendships rooted in shared discipline, accountability, and effort.

That said, commitment matters more than rank.

  • Consistency and reliability are the primary requirements to participate
  • All levels are welcome
  • Newer students are strongly encouraged to supplement training with Fundamentals Classes, which are also available online through the Heroes Portal (Gymdesk)

To keep pace with the curriculum, attendance of at least three classes per week is expected.

Class Structure & Schedule

Training alternates between Gi and No-Gi, so students should come prepared with both sets of gear.

Tentative Daily Schedule:

  • 6:30 AM — Doors Open
    Warm-ups, movement prep, and Q&A
  • 7:00 AM — Power Hour
Focused instruction on the lesson of the day
  • 8:00 AM — Rounds / Open Mat
  • 9:00 AM — Doors Close
    (Metered parking begins downtown)

Fridays are reserved for all rounds / Open Mat, replacing the traditional 5-round Tuesday format.

A Serious Path for Serious Practitioners

The Heroes Martial Arts Executive Class is for those who want structure, accountability, and a high-level training environment—without sacrificing career or family priorities.

If you’re ready to commit to consistent training, measurable improvement, and a deeper practice of Jiu Jitsu, this class was built for you.
